How do I know if I have bed bugs?
The surest sign is a live bed bug: flat, reddish-brown and about the size of an apple seed (around 5 mm). Other signs are small dark spots on sheets or mattress seams, shed skins, tiny pale eggs, and blood spots on bedding. Bites alone can’t confirm bed bugs, because some people never react to them.
Check these spots first:
- Mattress and box spring seams, piping and tags
- Bed frame joints and headboard
- Nightstands, couch seams and cushions
- Baseboards, outlet covers and picture frames near the bed
- Luggage and bags after travel

How does your bed bug treatment work?
Our technicians apply professional-grade products to mattresses, bed frames, furniture, baseboards and cracks where bed bugs hide and travel. Aprehend® leaves fungal spores on surfaces bed bugs cross. They carry the spores back to hiding spots and pass them to other bed bugs. A second visit 21 days later targets bugs that hatched after the first treatment.
What happens, step by step
- Inspection. The technician confirms bed bugs and maps how far they have spread: which rooms, which furniture, and nearby units if you’re in an apartment.
- Preparation. You get a prep checklist before treatment day.
- First treatment. Targeted application to harbourage and travel areas, including Aprehend® along routes bed bugs use.
- Re-entry. Occupants and pets stay out of treated areas for about 4 hours, or as directed.
- Monitoring period. Some activity is normal for a while as eggs hatch and hidden bugs cross treated surfaces.
- Second treatment (day 21). Targets the next generation before it can lay eggs.
- Follow-up if needed. Extra visits are available if activity continues (additional costs may apply).
Why don’t you use heat treatment?
Heat only kills bed bugs while the room is held at a lethal temperature. Once the home cools, nothing is left behind to stop bugs that survived in a wall void or come back on belongings. Our approach uses residual products, including Aprehend®, that stay active on treated surfaces for an extended period when applied and maintained according to the label.
How should I prepare for bed bug treatment?
Follow the checklist your technician sends, because prep depends on your home and treatment plan. Common steps are reducing clutter around beds and furniture, washing and drying bedding and clothing on high heat, bagging laundered items, and not moving belongings between rooms. Don’t throw out furniture before your technician sees it.
How much does bed bug treatment cost?

Will I still see bed bugs after treatment?
Possibly, for a short time. Eggs can hatch after the first visit, and hidden bugs keep crossing treated surfaces. Seeing occasional activity in the first weeks doesn’t mean treatment failed. That is why the second visit is scheduled 21 days later. Tell your technician if activity stays the same or increases after the second visit.
Do I need to throw out my mattress?
Usually not. Finding bed bugs doesn’t mean a mattress or couch has to go. Dragging infested furniture through hallways can spread bed bugs to other rooms or units. Ask your technician to look at the item first. Mattress encasements can help after treatment.
